Hi-Lux Malcolm 8x USMC Sniper Scope
The 8X USMC-Sniper Riflescope is a piece of history. One of the most recognized names in military sniping during the Vietnam conflict was Marine Corps marksman Carlos Hathcock. Scopes of this design, with micrometer click external adjustment, were once favored by long range precision shooters, and quite a few different scope manufacturers offered very similar models. Today, an original USMC marked scope in mint condition is very rare and expensive.
Hi-Lux Optics is now adding a modern reproduction of the 8X USMC-SNIPER Model to its Wm. Malcolm line of vintage style riflescopes. Not only will this scope match the original scope in terms of aesthetics, the M8USMC also offers the advantages of modern lens coatings and scope manufacturing processes.
The scope will be marked with the Wm. Malcolm name over the USMC-SNIPER model designation, and each will be serial numbered. The Marine Corps utilized this style of scope on sniper rifles during WWII, Korea and Vietnam, commonly relying on the old WWI vintage .30-06 Springfield Model 1903 and Model 70 Winchester rifles (Modified specifically for sniper use, the WWII rifle was also known as the USMC Model 1941A1 Sniper Rifle.) During the Vietnam conflict, some of the earlier snipers, such as Carlos Hathcock, continued to rely on the external adjustment "target scopes" the Corps had adopted during WWII.
All the air glass surfaces are fully multi-coated using DiamondTuff14 for optimal light transmission and clarity. The parallax settings for the scope are adjustable at the front objective. To adjust parallax distance, you need to completely remove the sunshade at the objective. For closer distances, rotate the parallax ring clockwise. For longer distances, you need to rotate the parallax ring counter-clockwise, and physically press the lens housing inwards. The parallax distance markings on the scope are for reference. We recommend that you look through your scope at a target at the parallax distance to verify that the sight picture is clear.
The rear micrometer mount has a 1/4 MOA click for both elevation and windage. To ensure that the click value is accurate, check to make sure that the rear and front mount spacing is 7.20". One full turn of the elevation or windage knob has 60 clicks. The scope comes with two blocks for 1941A1 and four screws.
