Bore Tech

Bore Tech’s cleaning chemistry is different to most other brands out there - it’s water based, and contains no ammonia, which means that if you’re used to using traditional cleaning products, you can use Boretech products in a different way. Nothing in Boretech’s range will etch barrel steel, so a solvent can be left in the bore for as long as the job takes rather than watched and flushed on a timer.

It’s also odor free and biodegradable, so you don’t even need to clean outdoors. Why you need to keep your rifle clean

Anyone who’s ever shot a rifle knows, you have to keep it clean. If you don’t keep it clean, it stops shooting accurately long before it looks dirty. Copper and carbon deposits narrow the bore and change how the bullet travels down it - and a hard carbon ring built up at the throat drives pressure up. And what’s worse - none of this stuff gets removed in the same way.

Bore Tech bore solvents

Carbon is what you deal with most often. Bore Tech C4 Carbon Remover works on carbon alone, on blued, stainless and chrome lined barrels and on handgun and shotgun bores as well as rifle. Give the throat longer than the rest of the bore, because that deposit is harder than the carbon further down.

Copper needs different chemistry again, and Bore Tech Cu+2 Copper Remover oxidies copper fouling and then binds it, so it can’t plate straight back onto the barrel further along. If you’d rather just use one product, Bore Tech Eliminator will take carbon and copper out in the same pass. Three to five minutes covers a normal cleaning session, but because it’s got no ammonia in it, it can sit in a rifle overnight that got put away dirty without touching the steel.

If you fire .22 rimfire ammunition, this leaves lead and wax rather than copper and a centerfire solvent has nothing to react with - but Bore Tech Rimfire Blend is mixed for it and will clean out rimfire fouling just as well as centerfire fouling.

Rods, bore guides and jags

The rod is the only thing you put down the bore on purpose that is not a bullet, and one that flexes into the lands or catches the crown does more damage than the fouling ever would. The Bore Stix Cleaning Rod has a steel core under a low friction coating so it resists bowing, and a free floating dual bearing handle so the jag turns with the rifling instead of unscrewing partway down. We stock five lengths, from 30 to 52 inches, color coded by caliber.

Solvent running back into the action and trigger can also cause a lot of damage. The Bore Tech Bore Guide seals against the chamber with a replaceable rubber nosecone and keeps the rod centered going in. The Bore Guide is 13.5 inches, fits Remington 700 pattern actions and most others with a bolt diameter between 0.695 and 0.700 inches, in .17 to .25, .25 to .30 and 8mm to .416, plus AR-15 and AR-10 variants.

Kits, degreasers and lubricants

Bolt lugs, the bolt face and the firing pin channel collect grease and carbon that a bore cleaning session never reaches. The Bolt Action Cleaning Tool Kit covers it, with a rimfire version and the wiper on its own when that is the part that wears out.

A dirty AR does not lose accuracy, it stops cycling. Carbon builds on the tail of the bolt and around the gas rings until the rifle short strokes. Bolt carrier kits for AR-15 and AR-10 deal with the carrier group, and the AR-15 Complete Upper Cleaning Kit covers the whole upper.

Suppressor baffles are the hardest fouling on the rifle to get at, and you cannot brush them. The Decimator is a full cleaning system rather than a solvent.
