Our Cartridge Box Holder for .223 ammunition is identical to model N039 with the exception of size. It will hold a 20 round box of military ammunition .223 with two sighter rounds. It comes with a plastic insert which will fit into the holder as a permanent fixture for 20 rounds.
Our boxholder conveniently fits into the coat pocket by a leather flap that slides into the pocket.

Mar 23, 2017As was mentioned by others, the MTM J-20 insert is a loose fit for .223 cases and if you don't stay upright, some cartidges WILL fall out. So, I went to my local Auto Zone (as suggested earlier) and went thru their copious supply of rubber hoses and found a gas line that fit very snug with a .25 inch inside diameter. Cut twenty 5/8" pieces and shoved them into the bottom of each opening. They did turn square shaped and the 1/4" shrunk a little, but with a top down insertion grip the projectiles very well and are quite easy to pull out. I also found that handling the cartridge by the case makes loading easier and quicker with less chance for my sweaty fingers to drop the case. The leather workmanship is excellent.

Sep 13, 2016Seems like there has been a design change from what I expected. Previous versions that I've seen have a bit of tension from the plastic insert and - within reason - keeps the rounds from falling out. This insert is an MTM slip case and it makes it really treacherous. Entirely possible to drop your entire offhand string in the dirt at the worst possible moment. I haven't figured out a good hack yet.

Owner Response: Thank you for taking the time to review this product. Some customers have had this same thing happen but others don't. We're not sure why.
But, here is one customer's solution:
"I think I found a cheap solution to the problem. I went to Auto-Zone and looked through their selection of fuel line tubing, vacuum tubing, etc. I found that the approximate 1/4" inside-diameter of windshield washer tubing perfectly matched the case neck diameter of a .223 cartridge, and the approximate 7/16" outside-diameter was a tight fit in the compartments of the cartridge holder. I bought a foot of the windshield washer tubing for $1.00, and cut it into 1/2" lengths. I then pushed the pieces into the cartridge holder, then used a cartridge to seat the tubing further down. The cartridges now slide in, they are held sufficiently tight that you can actually turn the cartridge holder upside-down and they don't fall out, but the cartridges easily slide out when it's time to fire them."
